Solutions for bad dog behavior
As a dog owner you would always have your platter full in terms of playing and taking care of your dog. No top of that, if the dog starts misbehaving, you could get really stressed and you really want to avoid it.
Unfortunately, with dogs, more often than not you’ll reach a point where it starts barking continuously, or leaping over things and people, or even chewing at things and biting people. These can be uneasy situations for you and so you have to loosk for dog behavior solutions. To start with change your perception about your dog.
Yes, it is a part of your family, by it is a different species – a canine. It doesn’t share the same level of mental development and physical characteristics as you. The actions that are common to dog may cause problems to you in your house. So, you have to understand and appreciate this before starting out on solving this problem.
Dogs cannot express discomfort orally and may resort to apparent bad behavior to do so. Hence, it is important that you ensure that dog’s actions are mere bad behavior and nothing more serious. Pay a visit to the pet doctor to have it checked up and to get some useful tips on controlling this behavior. Once you are certain that it is just a misbehaving dog, you can start preparing for the training sessions.
A common problem found in dogs is excessive barking. This is a natural instinct for the dog and hence may take sometime for it to change that. You need to work on teaching your dog to bark at the right time alone. This can be done through regular behavior conditioning or through use of special collars.
Usually, a barking dog is only seeking attention. Consequently, if you want to solve it, do the opposite. Whenever it starts barking excessively ignore it. Other solutions like the use of collar have a similar effect except that instead of neglect they cause discomfort to the dog.
The special collars are designed to emit a foul-smelling substance or low intensity electric pulse whenever the dog barks at inappropriate times. With these collars in place, your dog would mend its barking habits.
Jumping over things and people is another problem faced frequently by dog owners. Again to get rid of this habit, you have to determine the best response (opposite of the dog’s intent) that you can give. Even a jumping dog is seeking attention so neglecting its actions is a good way to address this problem. Alternatively, you could order the dog to “stop” whatever its doing. However, for this to work you have to train your dog to obey the “stop” command. “Sit” is another command that can be effective in such situations. Such orders would make the dog stop jumping to follow them which can solve the problem.
Lastly, the problems with dog chewing things or biting people. This is another natural behaviour for your dog. So you don’t want to curb it, you must focus on teaching it what to chew and what not to chew. Chewing is generally what a dog would do if it gets bored. In such cases, the dog would destroy your house if it gets bored frequently. To avoid this you can designate a place for the dog to have a free reign and place some toys or chew bone there. This will keep the dog confined to a particular area and give something to fight its boredom.
Thus it is seen that dog behaviour solutions are pretty simple and can be practiced at home too. Always ensure that you take proper medical advise while addressing the behaviour problems. Beyong that, it is your dog so discipline it the way you want to.
